About

Hi, I'm Daniel Chung, and I'm running to be your next District Attorney!

I am an experienced trial attorney who has prosecuted violent crimes in Silicon Valley and New York City.

Santa Clara County is my home community. I grew up in Milpitas in a single-parent immigrant family and attended both public and private schools: John Sinnott Elementary School, Valley Christian Junior High School, and Bellarmine College Preparatory.

Extensive financial aid and loans and multiple jobs enabled me to attend Harvard College and Columbia Law School.

Raised by my mother and grandmother, I learned how to be fearless and loving. For over a decade, I was a teacher and learned how to be patient, give people second chances, and have a sense of humor. Youth inspire me with their extraordinary potential for growth, creativity, and change.

When I was 8 years old, I lost my father to suicide. I know what it's like to face mental health and family issues. Even with government assistance, my mother struggled to make ends meet. I know what it's like to worry about overwhelming debt and to lose your home.

My experiences inspire me to help others, especially the poor and the marginalized.

I'm ready to work hard and serve our community. I'm a battle-tested trial lawyer with significant jury trial experience in California and New York. I've handled over 1,000 criminal and civil cases, appeared in both state court and federal court, conducted high-stakes investigations and arbitrations, and even successfully argued my own appeal in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. I received the Robert Webb Award in 2020 for my strong trial advocacy and was honored as a Lawyer on the Fast Track in 2025 for my high-stakes litigation practice.

I am not afraid to speak truth to power and stand up to bullies. When Asian Americans were violently attacked during COVID-19, I spoke out and advocated for public safety and balanced criminal justice reforms. When the current District Attorney abused his power, I called him out on his lack of integrity. I am the only prosecutor in Santa Clara County who has publicly and legally challenged the District Attorney's misconduct and prevailed multiple times.

I am a prosecutor who lives in San Jose, and I am deeply rooted in our community and committed to its diversity. As President of the Korean American Bar Association of Northern California (KABANC), I am active in local groups and have volunteered for APABA Silicon Valley, AABA, NAACP, KACF-SF, KPA, Harvard, Bellarmine, and Second Harvest. I have served many bar associations, chambers of commerce, churches, and schools, and have mentored hundreds of students and youth. My Christian faith and community challenge me daily to do justice and love mercy. I believe that accountability and community can change people's lives.

I want to be your next District Attorney because I believe that we can do better, together.

Together, we can make our community safer.

Together, we can make our community fairer.

Together, we can restore justice and public safety.

Together, we can uplift and empower our community.

After 16 years, it's time for change.

It's time to uplift and empower our community.
